Vivo Energy Namibia keeps energy wheels rolling
Vivo Energy Namibia, the distributor and marketer of Shell branded fuels and lubricants in Namibia, has today contributed N$ 150,000 worth of fuel (about 13,200 litres) to support the mobility of the Ministry of Health and Social Service’s Emergency response teams countrywide in a bid to further mitigate the impact of the COVID-19 global pandemic.
The company has also pledged to use selected Shell retail sites around the country; to provide free softdrinks to members of emergency response services on duty during the extended lockdown period. This contribution is worth N$ 48,000, and brings the total donation to the Ministry of Health and Social Services to N$ 198,000.
Vivo Energy Namibia aims to make a real and lasting difference in the communities in which it operates, and this support to the Ministry of Health and Social Services comes in the wake of health and livelihoods threats presented by the novel coronavirus – COVID-19.
Mr. Edward Walugembe, Managing Director of Vivo Energy Namibia said: “Our key differentiator has always been maintaining the highest standards in terms of health and safety, as evidenced by our prioritization of Goal Zero, which means zero harm to people, assets and the environment in all our operations. We therefore view our support towards the national COVID-19 response as an obligation and duty to our citizens and as a commitment to assisting the Namibian government to deal with this extraordinary health crisis.”
“We further reiterate our commitment to reliably delivering the very best of our service through this fuel donation for emergency response vehicles and also refreshments for our men and women in uniform putting themselves in harms’ way as they carry out essential and life-saving work in the country,” he added.
Deputy Minister of Health and Social Services, Esther Muinjangue, received the donation on behalf of the Ministry and thanked Vivo Energy Namibia for its kind gesture and solidarity. “Your support will help the government in fighting the pandemic and enhance the ministry’s COVID-19 response. We believe that with the combined effort and support of all companies and individuals, our efforts to stem the spread of the deadly virus and save the lives of our citizens shall be greatly boosted,” she concluded.
Vivo Energy Namibia continues to appeal to the public to follow preventive guidelines issued by the World Health Organization and the Ministry of Health and Social Services in order to curb the spread of the virus.
