Shell aims to be a positive presence in our host country; to deliver long-term benefits to Namibia and its people. While our representative office in Namibia is relatively small, three of our four staff are Namibian, and we are all passionate about contributing to Namibian communities and wider society.

Since Shell entered Namibia in 2014, we have gladly given our time, skills and funding to a range of social and environmental projects. These have included:

  • participating in festivals and fairs to encourage young people to consider pursuing a scientific education (partnering with the National Commission for Research, Science and Technology);
  • helping raise awareness among school children in Lüderitz on coastal and marine biodiversity (partnering with the Namibia Nature Foundation);
  • providing defensive driving training sessions to various organisations we work with, to help reduce the road safety risk in Namibia; and
  • investing in an early learning centre for marginalised children.

Community engagement

Another important aspect of being a positive presence is respectful engagement with communities and other sectors of Namibian society. This means listening, communicating, and responding honestly and responsibly.
