Empowering Namibia’s Energy Future: Shell Namibia Hosts Petroleum Geoscience Workshop with the Namibia University of Science and Technology (NUST)
Shell Namibia, in collaboration with the Namibia University of Science and Technology (NUST), recently delivered a transformative five-day technical workshop titled Introduction to Petroleum Geoscience for Engineers and Non-Geologists. Held from 2–6 June 2025, the initiative aimed to equip Namibian engineering students with foundational knowledge in petroleum exploration and reservoir engineering—critical capabilities for the country’s growing energy sector.

This initiative directly supports the objectives of the Total & Shell Industry Baseline Study (IBS), which identified the need to prepare Namibian citizens to be competitive in the oil and gas sector. The workshop was a practical step towards building that capacity.
The event brought together 36 students from NUST and 3 from the University of Namibia (UNAM), offering them a unique opportunity to engage directly with Shell experts and industry partners from SLB. Through interactive sessions on drilling, exploration, and petroleum geology, students gained practical insights into the oil and gas value chain.
One student shared, “I walked into the training with little knowledge of oil and gas, but now I have a solid understanding of both geology and reservoir engineering.”
Shell Namibia looks forward to continuing this momentum with future sessions.
