Safety Day 2025: A Collective Commitment to Safer Workplaces
On 22 June 2025, Shell teams joined contractors, JV partner NAMCOR, and representatives from the Ministry of Industries, Mines and Energy for a Safety Day under the theme “How I Respond Matters.” The event reinforced Shell’s commitment to systematic HSSE & SP risk management and continuous improvement across all operations.
The session brought together key themes in safety, inclusion, and performance. Participants explored the International Association of Oil & Gas (IOGP) Human Performance Principles, reflecting that error is normal and mistakes can happen. Instead of placing blame, we understand that context drives behaviour and applying Learner Mindset is key to learning and improving. Importantly, we want to nurture the feeling of personal responsibility and agency in responding to what is happening around us – our response is in our control.
Road safety was highlighted through insights from the Motor Vehicle Accident Fund, reinforcing the importance of protecting lives both on and off the job. A dynamic discussion on contractor HSSE management emphasised the value of courage, communication, consultation, and collaboration in managing risk.
Emergency preparedness was brought to life with a demonstration of life-saving CPR techniques and a reminder that readiness can make all the difference. The session concluded with a powerful conversation on diversity, equity, inclusion, and mental health—underscoring that psychological safety is just as vital as physical safety.
Safety Day 2025 was not just an event—it was a reminder that safety is a mindset, a culture, and a responsibility we all share.
